Freddie Edwards was born in Tulsa, OK and raised in southeastern Oklahoma in the town of Cameron. Actually he’s from Rock Island, the boyhood home place of famous songwriter Albert E. Brumley (one of his mentors).
Singing and songwriting has been a part of Freddie’s heritage for many generations.
His grandma Jannie was a singer/songwriter. According to his father, Jackie Edwards (who is a Freewill Baptist Minister, singer/songwriter) said that his mother was always singing around the house or in the cotton fields and writing songs. Freddie remembers well when his mom and dad would take him to gospel singing as a child and was influenced by groups such as The Blackwood Brothers, Statesmen Quartet and The Speer Family.
He has had many songs published in singing convention books over the past several years. Also the Florida Boys, Anchormen , Heritage Quartet and many others have recorded some of his songs. Freddie gives much credit to such songwriters as Harold Lane, Charles Novell, Dave Clark, Eugene McCammon and Daryl Williams with whom he has studied with in the past. Freddie quotes; “I’m very grateful for the ability God has given and strive to perfect the art and craft of songwriting and singing. “
He also teaches elementary music at Poteau, OK schools and teaches at the Stamps-Baxter School of Gospel Music in the summers since 1991. Freddie specializes in writing uplifting happy southern gospel songs with a positive and hopeful message. His unique songwriting style presents the gospel truths to old and young alike. He hopes that his songs will be an encouragement and blessing to the Christian and direct the lost to the Savior’s cross.
His latest cd “Celebrate Life” new for 2009 has country, patriotic and southern gospel songs. He has songs about his grandmother (Going To Grandma’s House) son Eric - U.S. Marine (The Flag Still Flies Here At Home) and Uncle Tony (Jesus Will Hold My Hand). He is joined by his grandson singing on “Stop, Look, Listen & Live”. Children will enjoy this song. Other songs about the power, love and hope that we have in Jesus Christ rise and shine in this new project.
